What are the four pots?
The short answer
Four cards on Today that show where your money is spoken for: Regular bills, One-off bills, Car wear and Tax pot. The big number is how much has built up; the small /wk figure is what goes in each week.
- Regular bills: the bills you set up to repeat, and your car loan repayments. Builds at a weekly share of them; paying a bill takes it out.
- One-off bills: tyres and repairs saved for every km you drive, from your first shift, plus an estimate for your other one-off costs from your last year of them. Builds weekly; a one-off bill takes it out. If you set tyres, repairs or road user charges up as a repeating bill, Regular bills saves for them instead, so they’re never saved for twice.
- Car wear: the value your car has lost to the business so far, and how much more each week. It isn’t cash.
- Tax pot: what to set aside for tax this tax year so far. It has no weekly figure, because it follows what you earn.
The Tax pot covers the whole tax year so far, so it’s often the largest. It isn’t a week’s worth.
Tax is money you owe, so it comes off your take-home. The two bills pots are your own money held back for later: on This week they show as held for bills, inside what you Kept.
