Why does my $/hr look low?
The short answer
Your driving rate is what an hour on shift pays after fuel, running costs and tax, so it’s lower than the apps’ figure. Bills aren’t in it: they’re paid whether you drive or not.
Running costs are the tyres, maintenance and repairs each kilometre uses (NZTA’s average, a lower estimate for an EV, or your own bills once you’ve logged a year of them), plus road user charges if you pay them. The tax is your rate for the tax year so far.
- Pauses aren’t counted as time on shift.
- Shifts still waiting for their fares are left out until you add them.
- Today compares your rate with your usual for the same weekday.
- Your bills are still in your take-home, on every card. The week card says how many hours of driving they took.
Check the shift recap: it lists your fare, fuel and every bill, so you can see where the money went.
